IFFSDA was founded by LGBTQ/ Same-Sex dance associations in North America and Europe to establish a governing body to sanction and regulate World Championships for same-sex and open role dancesport.

Since its inception, the founding organizations have evolved from “same-sex dancing” to “equality dancing” to emphasize their inclusive approach to partner dancing, regardless of couple configuration. Accordingly, IFSSDA will change its name in the near future.
